Bioceltix Enters into Grant Agreement for a Cell-Free Therapy Project for Dogs in Consortium with Jagiellonian University

Bioceltix S.A. has signed a grant agreement for the “InnoBioVet” project under the European Funds for a Modern Economy (FENG) programme. The project will be carried out in a consortium with researchers from Jagiellonian University.

A Global Market Seeking New Solutions

The veterinary healthcare market is growing rapidly, and spending on companion animal care continues to increase. Canine atopic dermatitis (AD) represents a substantial unmet market need. This burdensome condition is estimated to affect up to 15% of the dog population, making it one of the most significant challenges in modern veterinary medicine.

If the planned studies confirm the effectiveness of the technology, the product designated BCX-CM-Sec has the potential to become a breakthrough therapeutic solution.

What Makes This Technology a Breakthrough?

The innovative technology being developed within the project is based on harnessing the potential of the secretome and purified extracellular vesicles (EVs) derived from mesenchymal stem cells. Rather than administering living cells, the approach utilizes bioactive nanoparticles to create a cell-free therapeutic product, making it significantly easier to transport, store, and ultimately more accessible to patients.

Within the consortium, Bioceltix will be responsible for, among other activities, generating cell lines, verifying efficacy in in vivo models, conducting safety studies, and manufacturing the future medicinal product in compliance with certified cGMP pharmaceutical standards. Laboratory research and the development of a stable product formulation are being carried out in close collaboration with leading experts from the Faculty of Biochemistry, Biophysics and Biotechnology at Jagiellonian University.

Scientific Excellence Supported by Commercial Expertise

The scientific partners strongly emphasize the importance of having an industry partner with a robust commercialization infrastructure:

“Transferring advanced knowledge of cellular mechanisms directly from Jagiellonian University laboratories is the essence of what modern science should look like,” says Prof. Ewa Zuba-Surma, Head of the Scientific Team at Jagiellonian University.

“What is particularly important for us is that Bioceltix contributes not only an excellent understanding of the market, but also advanced cGMP-compliant manufacturing capabilities. This gives the results of our fundamental research a genuine opportunity to be translated into implementation and transformed into a safe medicinal product capable of making a real impact on the global veterinary biotechnology market.”
