Naszemiasto.pl: Free dog sterilization in Wrocław. Who can take part in the Bioceltix program and how to sign up?

Free spay procedures for female dogs are launching in Wrocław as part of the “Sterilization Campaign” by Bioceltix. The program is open to dogs aged 12–36 months (minimum 15 kg) and includes the surgery, diagnostic tests, post-operative care, and microchipping — all free of charge throughout March and April. Registration is now open, and with a limited number of spots available, early sign-up is encouraged.

Who can take part in the Bioceltix program and how can you apply?
Guardians of female dogs aged 12–36 months and weighing at least 15 kg can enroll their pets in the free “Sterilization Campaign” run by Bioceltix. The program covers the spay procedure, a package of post-surgery diagnostic tests, and microchipping. The initiative will be carried out in selected veterinary clinics across Wrocław in March and April. Eligibility depends on meeting the criteria and the order of applications received.

“Awareness among pet owners about animal health is growing. We’re pleased to expand access to free procedures — the cost of spaying a female dog is currently close to 1,000 PLN, which is not affordable for everyone. It’s a crucial preventive health measure: it reduces the risk of reproductive system diseases and can extend a pet’s life. We have a limited number of places available, so we encourage people to apply as soon as possible,” says Paweł Wielgus of Bioceltix.

What criteria must a female dog meet to qualify for the free procedure?

The program is open to female dogs aged 12–36 months, weighing at least 15 kg, that have not been previously bred, are in good health, and are preferably microchipped (if not, Bioceltix will cover the cost of microchipping). Dogs adopted from shelters are also eligible, provided they have been in their new home for at least one month.

Dogs qualify regardless of their place of residence; however, all procedures will be carried out in Wrocław and the surrounding area.

The free package includes:

  • Standard ovariohysterectomy (removal of the uterus and ovaries under general anesthesia),
  • Post-operative care, including pain relief medication and an antibiotic administered during recovery,
  • A follow-up visit with suture removal if necessary,
  • Comprehensive post-surgery diagnostic tests,
  • Microchipping, if the dog is not already chipped.
  • Wide-ranging benefits for the canine community

The campaign helps reduce animal overpopulation and homelessness while educating guardians about the importance of sterilization.

“The procedure lowers the risk of mammary gland tumors and prevents uncontrolled breeding, which in turn helps reduce overcrowding in shelters,” emphasizes Paweł Wielgus.

The initiative also has a scientific dimension: biological material collected during the procedures will be used in research on new treatments for atopic dermatitis and osteoarthritis in dogs. The process is supervised by veterinary authorities, the Main Pharmaceutical Inspectorate, and the European Medicines Agency — ensuring full compliance and no harm to the animals involved.
